If you don’t like links, or hate that someone that ‘played a game’ for a living talks about something other than said game, don’t read any further, don’t click the link. If you’re none of the above feel free to read on and respond.
Ann Coulter might be extreme, but damn the woman is intelligent in ways that piss so many people off. You have to think that with as much anger and hatred as she elicits, she has to be hitting too close to home for some.
I disagree with some of what she says, I do wish she was more subdued so more people would listen to the actual content of what she says, but she has an opinion and really doesn’t give a damn what people think, there’s something admirable about that….most of the time.

Anne Coulter? Really Curt? That’s the best example of conservative thought you choose to honor? Anne Coulter is like the Jose Canseco of politics. Actually, she’s the Carl Everett of politics.
Thanks for 2004 but there’s nothing to read here any more. Good luck on Copernicus.
August 6th, 2009 at 9:22 pm
Ann Coulter is full of intelligence and wit. (She looks good too.) But I think she’s starting to get a little full of herself and relishing the “isn’t-it-cool-that-everyone-on-the-left-hates-me” vibe a bit too much.
August 6th, 2009 at 9:59 pm
Hitler gave an opinion and didn’t care what people thought too.
Intelligent isn’t a word I would use.
Coulter like Hitler knows how to sell hate to the weak minded. It’s a good thing she’s only interested in money, unlike Hitler.
August 6th, 2009 at 10:44 pm
Well, it’s great when you talk about ALS and the philanthropic things you do.
Unfortunately it takes someone who really isn’t all that bright to think she is really “intelligent”. She’s just the Howard Stern of political “commentators”. One gets a lot of attention when one yells “fire” in a crowded movie theater……….Attention doesn’t equal “intelligence” though.
August 7th, 2009 at 12:35 am
Just because someone is a great baseball player, loved and respected by thousands, doesn’t make him a genius when it comes to politics. Ann Coulter is a lunatic for the very reason you mention, she doesn’t know how to tone it down and get a reasonable message across. Her anger says more about her than those who disparage her. Just because I disagree with her doesn’t mean she has hit some nerve of truth or something. I disagree because I can calmly, rationallly, and peacefully evaluate facts and see clearly how off the map she is. C’mon, stick to sports, will ya Curt?
August 7th, 2009 at 2:44 am
“These broads are millionaires, lionized on TV and in articles about them, reveling in their status as celebrities and stalked by griefparrazies. I have never seen people enjoying their husband’s deaths so much.” – Ann Coulter on 9/11 widows who have been critical of the Bush administration
“Whether they are defending the Soviet Union or bleating for Saddam Hussein, liberals are always against America. They are either traitors or idiots.” – Ann Coulter
Wow, Curt! That is some compelling content.
August 7th, 2009 at 4:41 am
Curt,
Ann Coulter doesn’t elicit hatred…she oozes it from every pore. The sad thing is it’s all an act, She’s just a hack dishing up the hate for her hungry followers with all the passion of waitress filling coffee cups or a fry cook flipping burgers.
And if she’s so intelligent, why doesn’t she figure out how to down some calories? She looks like a praying mantis, just absent the charm and good looks.
August 7th, 2009 at 6:02 am
I’m not convinced that she isn’t correct (the left could very well contain more cranks than the right) but her argument is fairly disingenuous.
The “birthers” are similar to 9/11 “truthers?” In fact, even the Rasmussen poll she cites seems to run against her argument. 26% of Republicans thought Bush had foreknowledge of the 9/11 attacks, or were unsure. Research 2000 posed the question “Do you believe that Barack Obama was born in the United States of America or not?” and only 7% of Democrats said he was not born here, or were unsure.
“Not content with merely humoring their nuts, Democratic officeholders promote conspiracy theories themselves.” Really? There is a Republican bill in the pipes right now that panders to the birthers, requiring future candidates to submit a birth certificate.
I cannot take seriously those who cherry pick data so flagrantly. My complaint isn’t partisan, there are plenty on the left who do the exact same thing and are given a national voice. In this case, though, how can I even take her other claims seriously when the ones I looked at were so demonstrably false?

Is it April 1?
August 7th, 2009 at 8:49 am
Have you ever actually read any David Brooks, William F. Buckley Jr, Irving Kristol, Milton Friedman, or George Will (and no Bunts or Men at Work don’t count)?? Or are they simply too polysyllabic for you?
Go on, keep thinking jocking Anne Coulter is the path back to power for the GOP…make sure to send that memo to Michael Steele.
August 7th, 2009 at 9:19 am
Curt,
“People get so angry… she must be on to something” is a pretty weak argument.
But, just to test it… I walked into my local Whole Foods yesterday. I started yelling in the middle of the store… “9/11 was an Inside Job” and “Do we REAAAAALLY knwo where Obama was born?”
People got really mad. I must have been on to something.
August 7th, 2009 at 9:37 am
It would be nice if she could communicate the actual truth, instead of a supposed grain of it surrounded by outright lies and innuendo. She is a verbal rapist. No, we didn’t want it.
August 7th, 2009 at 9:37 am
Wow, I can almost hear the WEEI higher-ups squirming in their seats from here.
As an earlier commenter said, thanks for being part of the team in ‘04, but I think it best if your blog and my computer screen part ways. Life’s too short to randomly, and willingly, subject myself to this kind of unfortunate ignorance.
Best wishes to you and yours, Curt.
August 7th, 2009 at 10:43 am
Ann Coulter is irrelavant. She spreads her lies to a smaller and smaller audience these days.
August 7th, 2009 at 11:01 am
Most of you who have responded should go back and re-read Curt’s comments. He acknowledges that AC isn’t subtle and could probably draw a better listening audience by toning it down. Curt also mentions right off the bat (no pun…) that he is a retired athlete about to discuss a non-athletic topic. Finally, he states that he doesn’t agree with everything but he admires her for having a strong opinion and for laying it out there. Yet, most replies attacking Curt (and Ann) are aimed right at what Curt addressed and mentioned in his post. The way I read his post is this; he agrees with some of her ideas/thoughts and can appreciate someone with a spine to throw it out there and take on the people who think otherwise.
PS – Maybe Ann Coulter isn’t angry and doesn’t ooze hatred. Sure, she’s “speaking” at an elevated level and has a list of rants, but maybe she’s just very frustrated. Know what frustrates me? When people don’t listen (or read) during an disagreement/argument and then turn around and make a comment or build a case for something that’s already been acknowledged or dismissed as true. It’s like “hey knucklehead…I just said _______(insert Point Of View)…I agree with you, so stop whipping a dead horse.”
August 7th, 2009 at 1:52 pm
I respect everyone to have their opinions, and you to like hers, but I just can not comprehend how anyone could like this person. She is a mean, hate filled human being. Now I am not sure if part of this is her schtick to sell books and maker her money, which would not surprise me, or if her opinions are 100% how she feels (which would really scary me). I truly hope she goes over the top, similar to Rush and Hannity in order to make money. I can not comprehend them having this much actual hate inside. It is very scary.
August 7th, 2009 at 2:04 pm
You’ve found a way to point to the CHB of politics. E-1
August 7th, 2009 at 2:29 pm
It’s always fun to read the comments from the narrow minded liberal bigots. They just can’t stand the idea that someone else has an opinion that is different from theirs. And they damn sure don’t want anyone with a different view exercising their first amendment right.Reminds me of the KKK.
August 7th, 2009 at 3:56 pm
Contrary to popular belief, a person’s intelligence isn’t gauged by their absorption of liberal ideals. Hate speech is spewed from both left field and right with the folks from Manny Ramirez’s corner issuing more. In 2001, our “esteemed” president likened modern day America to Nazi Germany. The sound-bite was played today on Rush Limbaugh… but since he’s conservative, I imagine most of the posters here wouldn’t have heard the clip. Discard the voices of your “educated” posters Mr. Schilling and keep speaking your mind – athlete or not – we’re all entitled to free speech. But, perhaps, Democrats might send Union rough-types to shut you up like they did the “right-wing agitators” at yesterday’s Town Hall meetings.

August 8th, 2009 at 11:16 am
There is something wrong with Ann Coulter. When you go around saying things like how Timothy McVeigh should have blown up blown up the NY Times building instead of the Murrah Center in OKC or how all Muslims should be killed/forcibly converted to Christianity or how some of the 9/11 widows are whores who were glad their husbands were killed…there’s something wrong somewhere.
August 8th, 2009 at 11:41 am
Jesus, Curt, you are off the deep end. She is the opposite of admirable: a deceptive liar playing to the weak-minded, an example of everything that’s *wrong* with political discourse in this country today. If you want to get people talking, find a conservative spokesman with some shred of dignity… if you can.
August 8th, 2009 at 5:52 pm
Ann Coulter isn’t for real. She can’t be. I’m convinced she’s a walking parody. She’s pushing to see how far she can go, how extreme she can be, and still have folks on the Right defend her. She’s very likely laughing at all those on the Right who actually think her extreme views ought to be heard.
August 8th, 2009 at 7:38 pm
I agree with Jeremy. If Ann Coulter is intelligent, than she is just more accountable for the hate-mongering, publicity-driven drivel that she spews on a regular basis.
I don’t care how smart a person is, when they regularly use generalizations, bigotry, and stereotypical hate speech…I refuse to listen to anything they have to say. Wish you would do the same, Curt.
A few “intelligent” quotes from Ms. Coulter:
“Liberal soccer moms are precisely as likely to receive anthrax in the mail as to develop a capacity for linear thinking.”
“The Democrats have no actual policy proposals of their own unless constant carping counts as a policy.”
“We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity. We weren’t punctilious about locating and punishing only Hitler and his top officers. We carpet-bombed German cities; we killed civilians. That’s war. And this is war.”
“We just want Jews to be perfected, as they say.”
“”If we took away women’s right to vote, we’d never have to worry about another Democrat president. It’s kind of a pipe dream, it’s a personal fantasy of mine, but I don’t think it’s going to happen.”
“If I’m going to say anything about John Edwards in the future, I’ll just wish he had been killed in a terrorist assassination plot.”
August 8th, 2009 at 8:39 pm
These comments make it clear how Massachusetts was the
only state won by Mondale….while Reagan won the other 49!!
August 8th, 2009 at 11:54 pm
Curt,
Keep up the good work! Turn on the light and all the cockroaches go scurrying. Hilarious!
To all you lefty Obots: Did you actually READ Ann’s column? Is there one thing in it that is false? Are either of her lists of lefty conspiracy theory out of bounds?
I get it. If you tell the truth about Dems and Leftists you are a hate filled whore or bastard (depending on which sex you claim to be.) And pretty funny how it was fine to refer to BusHitler for 8 years, but ne’er deign to say anything blasphemous about the One.
August 9th, 2009 at 4:29 pm
Curt, I had respect for you… a lot of it. I know it doesn’t matter to you, but I just lost a whole lot of respect for you. Ann Coulter is one of the most despicable mediots I can think of, and that’s saying quite a bit. Wow, I really am amazed you chose to honor her in any manner whatsoever…
August 9th, 2009 at 8:03 pm
The reason people react so strongly (and negatively) to Ann Coulter is NOT, as you suggest, because she is “hitting too close to home…” Rather, it is because she is hateful and does not allow for the possibility that intelligent people can come to different conclusions.
Just SOME additional comments of her contemptable discussion about people and issues she disagrees with:
“I was going to have a few comments about John Edwards but you have to go into rehab if you use the word faggot.” –at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference
“I’m more of a man than any liberal.”
“These broads are millionaires, lionized on TV and in articles about them, reveling in their status as celebrities and stalked by griefparrazies. I have never seen people enjoying their husband’s deaths so much.” -on 9/11 widows who have been critical of the Bush administration
“There are a lot of bad republicans; there are no good democrats.”
August 10th, 2009 at 8:26 am
whining harpies…whining harpies was the term she used to describe the 9/11 widows. How can anyone support a woman who described 9/11 widows as whining harpies
August 10th, 2009 at 9:42 am
Great link. Too bad more people that read your blog won’t spend the energy it takes to understand Ann. She is a string voice in a country that is headed in a very wrong direction! Thanks for the link.
August 10th, 2009 at 2:11 pm
AC said that “Jews need to be perfected.” She also regularly refers to Muslims with racist language. Is this the type of worldview you have Curt? I’m sure a lot of your fans in New England who belong to minority groups would love to hear more about that.
August 10th, 2009 at 4:22 pm
Eric says “…she is a string voice in a country that is headed in a very wrong direction”. I’m not sure of his context, but I guess a string voice is what one would expect from a string body. Ann O’Rexia could hide inside a garden hose.
August 10th, 2009 at 5:39 pm
Wow. Hope you’re learning from the bomb you dropped, Curt. Good luck with the coaching career, possible commentator jobs and advertising spots that you just flushed down the toilet.
August 10th, 2009 at 6:18 pm
I’m pretty surprised to read this Curt. You’ve never hidden your conservative bent, but you also never came off uninformed. In fact, I’ve always admired your independent spirit. Coulter is a xenophobic, racist, homophobic showgirl. She says things so over the top, that even she can’t possibly believe half of it. Example: her vile and unprovoked attacks on the 9/11 widows. In her book Godless, she wrote “I’ve never seen people enjoying their husbands’ deaths so much.”
Really????? It got worse from there. I’m pretty sure that in addition to being one of the worst days in this country’s history, it was THE worst day in the lives of each one of those women and their families. Curt, you should read her books before you decide to compliment someone as divisive, inauthentic and vile as Ann Coulter. Anyone can sound intriguing in sound bites. You say you disagree with some of what she has to say. Do your homework and I guarantee that that “some” will turn into “most”.
August 10th, 2009 at 6:57 pm
hi curt, i used to enjoy watching you during your days with the phillies when i still watched at least some baseball.
but about anne coulter, you are right on. she is smart, good looking and funny as hell. some people need to realize that not everything is meant to be taken literally. some of her comments are jokes, some things are said just to make a point and some just to needle over serious , politically correct socialists.
although the quote above about bad republicans and no good democrats probably can be taken literally. at least during the years of the obomanation.
August 11th, 2009 at 7:40 am
Love all the lefties who are so willing to besmirch the opinions of others in an effort to demean their character and relegate their opinions into obscurity.
Conform, or else, eh?
Keep going, Curt, until they call in the SIEU guys on you, too.
August 11th, 2009 at 10:47 am
There you go, one Coulter lover and 60 people with their heads attached… sounds about right.

I’m Jewish…I forgot about that “gem” from Annie.
I don’t need to be perfect. My lapsed Catholic/parochial school survivor wife likes me just the way I am.
My friends in Holland have seen Coulter on shows there. They’ve asked me if she is for real. Not sure if they believe she is.

Hey there curt,
I think if Ann Coulter looked like Janet Reno you would not admire as much. Ann Coulter is way off her rocker. I am of meager means and if I was down and out I would turn to Obama. Not because of his party or any of that, he is a kind man. If I were you, I would not turn my back on that cow coulter, she would slit your throat if she could make a buck on you. Lots of middle class and poor people rooting for you in 2004. I am surprised that you are taking such a stand on such a nutty woman.
August 12th, 2009 at 5:02 am
She does not believe in science.
That is rather a FAIL right there in critical thinking Curt. She is just another willfully ignorant creationist who never actually read the creation myths.
Still more coherent than Al Franken though.

This is just a ploy to divert attention from the steroid usage on your tainted championship teams. “Everyone was doing it” is the only justification I have heard from you. Although valid in kindergarten, it loses a little of it’s luster when you hit 40.
August 13th, 2009 at 4:49 pm
Stop the political spam please Curt and focus on pouring Ketchup on your sock. Loser. No one wants to hear from someone who supported a war that was started on a lie and has cost thousands upon thousands of lives. Stop hiding behind charity events and start apoligizing for murder…..and Ketchup.
August 19th, 2009 at 6:28 pm
You certainly have a right to your opinion Curt, which many people wouldn’t have in a world according to Ann. She is the political version of a shock jock and I seriously question if she really believes 50% of vile that comes out of her mouth.
It is my opinion that she is mostly in it for the money. Two faced BS certain is not limited to the right wing of American politics but few people on the stage of public opinion today are more hypocritical than Coulter who before mid January 2009 never took issue with deficit spending.
I guess spending borrowed money to kill innocent civilians in a country that posed no logical threat to the US is great but spending borrowed money to heal our own citizens is socialism.
Curt, sometimes I think your politics and your personal actions are in conflict with each other because you and your family are caring and generous souls! Something that will never be said of Ann Coulter.
